FRAME: At the first sight, the most evident change
you will see is the most important for an offroad machine. The chassis
is no more the classic tubular double cradle type, but a fantastic and
strength perimetral "U" steel dual beam frame, the same type
used in the high competition bikes, with the engine hanging on it, and
with two light structures that supports the engine and the rear fender
and seat. The frame is 2.2lbs lighter than past models, but is 50% more
rigid. This frame type has been patented and named DPF (Derbi Perimetral
Frame) and has also the same geometry as the Gran Prix Supercross machines.
This allows maximum control of the bike by the rider whether trailriding
or racing.
SUSPENSION: The front fork is a Showa Upside-Down system in which
Derbi was pioneer in the class, but now with a bars diameter of 35mm instead
the 32mm. The trail is also increased, with 195mm instead 180mm With this
fork we achieve more rigidity, control and stability. The rear shock absorber
it's also a Showa monoshock, improved with 200mm of trail instead the
185mm of the old model, with the shock absorber working in compression
and rebound. This is fixed to a new swing arm, lighter and stronger, and
designed in order to mount a flat sprocket, also more rigid than before,
that allows to maintain the right chain tension in any situation.
ENGINE: The engine is pure excitement on this motorcycle. 50cc
two stroke oil injected engine that no other manufacturer including Suzuki,
Yamaha, Kawasaki, KTM can keep up with at the same displacement. The aluminium
cylinder maintains the Ni-Si (Nickel-Silicon) treatment, which protects
the cylinder from normal wear, but inside there are several changes in
order to improve power and elasticity, thanks also to a new exhaust and
carburetor. The engine is also lighter, because the gear forks and the
clutch plate are now made of aluminium. The new exhaust is of motorcross
racing style and its also responsible for the gain of elasticity and torque
throughout the engine as you accellerate. The silencer has a liquid evacuation
system which keeps your exhaust flowing and resists clogging of the exhaust
baffles. Finally, a bigger radiator with fan cooling and water pump keep
your Derbi Senda engine from overheating and will allow maximum engine
performance no matter what the temperature.
TRANSMISSION: Is a race inspired, slick shifting 6 speed with a
manual clutch. 1 gear down and 5 gears up. The tranny on the Derbi Senda
50 has been developed with lightweight metals such as aluminum and metal
alloys that can withstand a beating from even the most inexperienced riders.
This transmission allows the driver to start the engine in any gear simply
by depressing the clutch which is new to the dirt bike industry.
OTHER IMPROVEMENTS: The hydraulic front and rear brakes are improved
with greater stopping power. Large brake calipers and light weight disks
are features on the front and rear of this motorcycle. The front brake
is controlled by a quick action adjustable lever and the rear brake is
foot controlled and also adjustable. The Derbi Senda 80cc now has a rechargeable
12 volt battery, that assists in front and rear lighting, turn signals
brightness, the horn loudness, and lights on the dashboard to warn of
trouble. The 2003 Senda 80cc comes with a heads up display that includes
speedometer, tachometer, and spy lights for coolant temperature, fuel
reserve, high beam light, and signals. The rims are aluminium 21"
in the front and aluminum 18" in the rear, with a new reinforced
axle. The handle bar follows the latest fashion out of Europe, the OBS(Open
Bar Safety) technology, without a central bar, but with a second tube
inside it reinforcing this part and leaving flexibility at the end to
minimise vibrations. Following the success of the previous Senda models,
the oil and gas caps are protected by a cover with a lock.
